United Kingdom Hydrogen Association Adopts Policy Paper
First-year Activity
The UKHA is working toward our first-year activity on Policy – Create and adopt Policy Position Paper for the Association, and begin to communicate UK industry views to government.
There is a growing interest in hydrogen energy in the UK and throughout Europe. The UKHA is asked increasingly for its views on a number of issues, both by representatives of UK and European roadmapping activities and by the media.
Our Policy Position Paper will define what the United Kingdom Hydrogen Association stands for, and will set our course for advocacy for the coming months and years. Therefore we encourage all members and those considering membership to participate to shape the resulting UKHA policy position to be most conducive to your organisation’s goals in hydrogen energy.
UKHA Policy Position paper - Draft (59Kb PDF)
The UKHA held a policy meeting in conjunction with the H2NET seminar on Developments in EC Hydrogen Programme and Standards & Safety, which took place at CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory on 17 October 2006. The UKHA Policy meeting was open to all UKHA members as well as those considering membership.
At this meeting, we addressed the following:
- Issues on which the UKHA should have a policy
- Issues which may be considered controversial
- An appropriate UKHA position on the above.
The schedule, including next steps, is tentatively defined as follows:
04 October 2006 - First Draft
17 October 2006 - First policy meeting – members and invited guests
30 October 2006 - Revised Draft/Notes from first meeting
30 Oct – 15 Nov 2006 - E-mail
15 Nov – 31 Dec 2006 - Web-based forum for posting discussion
Early – mid January 2007 - Web-based meeting
Mid January - Revised draft
January H2NET meeting at CPI - Broad stakeholder meeting
Mid February 2007 - Final draft
End February 2007 - Policy Committee Vote
Spring 2007 – Membership meeting - Full Membership adoption
Please note that as an industry association, the UKHA has the opportunity to be an organisation that can galvanize across sector boundaries, provide a strong national voice on hydrogen energy, engage government, and drive the UK hydrogen economy. Join us in developing our key policy positions to enable us to advocate strongly for a positive social, political and economic environment for the development of hydrogen energy in the UK.
